Some of the biggest fish in Essex carp syndicate The Arena have died in what’s thought to be a case of Spring Carp Mortality Syndrome.

Over 125 fish, averaging over 20lb and up to 37lb, have already died as Environment Agency bosses examine carcuses to confirm the disease.

Among those found dead are a mirror called Orange Spot at 37lb and a common called The Bream at 34lb. The water’s biggest fish, the 43lb mirror called QT, is said to be looking ‘unwell’.

The Arena, at Thurrock in Essex, did hold some 500 carp and costs £300 a year to fish.
