The day got off to an ice breaking start for most of the 22 anglers who turned out for the second of the six series of pairs matches on Dog Lanes’ Willow Pool.

Paul Roberts on Peg18 received one section point for his 3lb 12½oz of pristine mostly 1oz roach. Pauls’s partner, Dave West on opposite bank peg 38,  managed to find 2lb 11½oz of roach and perch to gain  4th in his section and help them to first overall in the pools match.

Dick Ashby (peg7) and son Justin (peg27) despite weighing more than  Dave and Paul got pushed into second overall by their lower combined pools section points.

Kev Folwell was a section winner on peg 32 6lb 3oz, for only the time it took to walk to the next peg 29 where Mark Smith weighed in 7lb of roach. However, Kev’s efforts were enough to help him and partner Rich Wills on peg12 with 2lb 4¾oz to gain third overall.

Individually the three top weights came from pegs 27, 28, 29 in that order. Justin Ashby with 8lb, Jake King with 7lb 3oz, Mark Smith 7lb.

Pinkie seemed to be the favoured bait this week over little or no groundbait depending on whether you were on fish or scratching. Match organiser Pete Palmer was scratching and scratching and remained a right blanker to the end of the match…doh!

The next match at Dog Lane will be on the 16th January and is open to individuals wishing to try the skill at catching silvers. The draw will be at 9am at the Kings Head pub Napton and breakfast can be had from 8am onwards. To book on and for further details contact Pete Palmer 07749 225 880.
