World famous musician Eric Clapton has banked the biggest salmon of the summer from Iceland’s Vatnsdalsá river.

The 108cm salmon, estimated at nearly 30lb, took half an hour to land after the guitarist famous for tracks like Layla hooked it with guide Sturla Birgisson.

Clapton, who was born in Surrey, England and ranks second in Rolling Stone’s all time guitar greatrs list, once told Vanity Fair that he would like to die while fishing.

The Vatnsdalsá  is one of the best known Icelandic salmon rivers and operates a strict catch and release policy.
