Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Canal Pairs – Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes

Three cold nights on the go helped put paid to any chances of the anticipated flood of good bream catches on this latest Angling Trust & Canal & River Trust Canal Pairs qualifier held on the Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes on Saturday 24th September 2016.

The match turned out to be a case of who could catch small fish fastest on pinkie, squat and red maggot, and in the case of Andy Curless he put 169 fish on the scales for 5-5-8.

The winning pair turned out to be local father and son pair Roger and David Tebbutt from Newport Pagnell who between them were just 2 section points short, or a perfect score as they came home one point clear of Norman Bradshaw and Martin Colver.

When it came to individual weights, the Peartree Bridge, Milton Keynes, length fished consistently throughout, and it was pretty tight at the top with every missed bite making a real difference.
Norman Bradshaw led the way with 7-6-8 from B section, followed by Alan Donnelly (A section) on 7-5, Dave Tebbutt (A section) 7-4 and Steve Rose, also A section, on 7-2.
Qualifiers who have qualified for the grand final in October are;

Roger and David Tebbutt – Newport Pagnell – 36 points
Norman Bradshaw and Martin Colver – Lubenham & Apethorpe – 35 points
Alan Donnelly and Andrew Curless – Nuneaton and Tring – 33
John Brogden and Chris Gorrell – Cottan and Preston – 29
Jason Evans and Mark Roberson– Harwood Park and Bromsgrove – 27
The next Canal Pairs qualifier heads to the Kennet and Avon Canal on Saturday 1st October 2016.
