Simon Fry has set a new match record at Maver Larford lakes with a 344-11-0 bag of carp and F1s from the Stourport venue’s Match Lake, caught during the two-day Maver Classic.

As soon as he arrived at his peg Simon could see fish moving in the margins, and that’s where he pole-fished from start to finish. Fishing meat hook baits, dropping the hook bait in after feeding using a Kinder pot, saw him get a bite almost straight away and as the match progressed he found the bigger carp in about two feet of water. It was an incredible day, with eight of the 13 anglers in his section weighing in over 150lb.
The catch wasn’t enough for Simon to win the Maver Classic though – that honour went to Paul Cook with a three-point total score. Meanwhile Gary Hick won the Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier at Larford with a 133-4-0 bag of carp from Match lake peg 43.
