John Wilson (no not that one) has landed one of the biggest cod ever to be taken from the River Tyne shoreline, Total-Fishing.com can reveal.

The massive 27lb 11oz fish was landed by the Manor AC Hartlepool member at The Ice House mark, North Shields.

North east based sea angling journalist Sam Harris said: “To say this has come as a shock would be an understatement. The big fish have all been offshore feeding on sprats and no-one was expecting a cod this big from the shoreline, least of all right in the river. I can’t think of a bigger one from the Tyne.”

With all the big cod apparently well offshore feeding on huge shoals of spratts, no-one could quite believe it when John Wilson landed this whopping 27lb 11oz cod right in the Tyne. Pic: Sam Harris.
