Dave Wood-Brignall has been thrust into the national new headlines after landing what looks set to be the new shore caught halibut world record.

The Kent angler was fishing at the Norwegian town of Bodo, a mark famed for giving the opportunity of hooking big halibut within casting range, when the 153lb 8oz flatfish, as big as him, took.

In April 2016 British angler Steve Ace landed a 97lb halibut from Bodo, inside the Arctic Circle.

At the time it was thought to be the second largest ever to be caught from the shore with the record standing at 112lb.
