Steve Edwards had the winning weight with 54lb 3oz from peg 6 on Willow catching carp in the 1 – 4lb bracket fishing tight up to the reed beds.  Second place was last year’s winner Lee Richards who drew peg 2 on Molands and caught six carp to 7lb on the waggler with a few F1’s to make up his 41lb 9oz.

REPORT

MOLANDS    A few cool nights during the week saw a dramatic drop in sport with Wednesday’s match fishing well then the Vets on Thursday really struggling.  The colour has dropped out a little and tactics are needed to be a little more refined with lighter lines and smaller hook sizes.  The best tactics have been the waggler/straight lead with 8mm pellet for carp or chopped worm/caster or maggot for F1’s and skimmers.  Best pegs
1 – 4, 12, 19 – 21, 27 – 31 and 45 – 48.

GEARYS   A restocking of carp in the 1 – 4lb bracket stirred up the sport this week with catches in matches to over 60lb and carp being caught on all areas.  Method feeder with meat, red boilies or pellet on the hook and pole fished corn or pellet have been the best tactics.  Top pegs are 6 – 9, 19 – 21 and 28 – 31.

LITTLE GEARYS    Still fishing quite hard by Little Gearys previous standards, but fish are being caught all around.  F1’s and skimmers are providing the main action with long pole and pellet or chopped worm and caster or a small method to the island with dead red maggot or small pieces of meat.  Top pegs are 7 – 11, 21, 24 – 27.

GRATUITIES    The bulk of the fish being caught are tight into the margin on either end of the pool.  Pegs 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16 remain the favoured pegs.  Long pole with pellet, caster or maggot accounted for the better catches.

ANNIVERSARIES    Another pool that has been affected by the cooler weather with anglers catching well at the start of the week but was quite hard at the weekend.  Skimmers, roach, crucians and the odd carp or tench have made up the bulk of catches.  Pole fished pellet, caster and maggot have worked best and pegs 1 – 6 and 21 – 23 have been in the best form.

WILLOW    The reed bed pegs 5 and 6 have been fishing well with lots of carp coming to corn or pellet fished tight up to the beds.  Around the pool, skimmers, roach and tench are showing in numbers with pellet or caster fished down the middle working well.

CRESCENT/FIRST BAY/REEDY BAY/ALDER   These pools come into their own in the winter with carp in the 1 – 5lb bracket, good sized roach, skimmers and crucians.  They all have been in decent form this week with simple fished tactics working best and corn or pellet the top baits.
