FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 27/4/14

Last week 117 rods caught 432 fish for an average of 3.69.

The Fishery is in good form with lots of fish moving on all of the pools.

The best fish of the week was a 6lb rainbow caught by Rod Lacey of Nuneaton who was fishing catch and release from a boat on Cocks Close and he caught this on a Montana Nymph fished on a floating line and it accounted for another ten fish.  Richard Lindsey of Stretton caught seven fish from a boat on Cocks Close with the biggest going 5lb and these all came to an orange Leech fished on an intermediate line.  Steve Gowan of Knowle fished from the bank on Cocks Close and used small Buzzers to tempt eight fish to 4lb.

On the members’ waters, Mike Ravenscroft of Kenilworth caught seven fish to 4lb whilst fishing from a boat on the Hall Pool and these fell to black Buzzers fished on a floating line.  Steve Haden of Birmingham fished on the Park Meadow pool and used black or ginger Buzzers to tempt six fish to 3½lb.

The Packington Fly Fishers held their annual match against Kirby Fly Fishers on the Great Pool on Sunday.  Kirby ran out the winners with their seven rods catching 31 fish against the Packington boys who had 24 fish.  Mr J Retalic caught the biggest fish, a 5lb 10oz rainbow which came to a black buzzer.

The top patterns are black, olive or red Buzzers, Hot Head Damsels, Bloodworm, GRHE, pearly P T Nymph, black Tadpole and Cats Whiskers.

There are lots of fish moving on all of the pools but the hotspots have been the wires and high bank of Cocks Close, the middle island on Great Pool and the dam wall end of Hall Pool
