FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 19/12/10

Last week 8 rods caught 54 fish for an average of 6.75.

The ice disappeared for a short spell last week allowing a few hardy souls to fish on Cocks Close.  Everybody that fished caught well with white or black Lures fished on intermediate or sinking lines the best tactic.

Ray Inman of Birmingham fished from a boat and caught seven fish to 7lb 2oz on a Woolly Bugger Lure.  Matthew Bird of Atherstone also took a boat out and caught
23 fish on a catch and release ticket with the biggest estimated at around the 6lb mark.  These fell to a Bloodworm pattern or black Buzzer fished under an indicator.

The frost at the weekend saw all the pools freeze over again and we would advise anybody to telephone us before travelling to the fishery.

The staff would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

REPORT
The slightly milder conditions at the start of the week saw a gradual thaw and by Thursday there were a lot of pegs free of ice.

Little Gearys was the heaviest fished with 23 on the Vets match on Tuesday and most caught albeit very low weights with skimmers and small roach making up most of the catches with the odd F1’s showing.  The car park side was the best for bigger F1’s with fish to 2lb coming to red maggot or pellet on the pole.  On Willow, pegs 5 and 6 were the best with F1’s and skimmers in nets to double figures with maggots, pinkies or 3mm expanders the best baits.  The aerator has been keeping pegs 1 – 5 clear on Molands and the few that fished it have caught small roach and perch on maggots and pinkies along with the occasional chub to 3lb.   The high bank of Gearys cleared through the week and the open was planned for Saturday and despite the heavy snow and the lakes freezing up four anglers decided to give it a go!  Only two weighed in with roach and perch coming to maggots or fluro pinkies.  A couple of anglers ventured on to the river last week and were rewarded with a few chub to 3lb caught on bronze maggot or the stick float.

ANGLERS PLEASE TELEPHONE THE FISHERY BEFORE COMING, TO ENSURE THE POOLS ARE OPEN.

THE STAFF AT PACKINGTON WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYBODY A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

REPORT

The slight thaw allowed us to break the ice on Little Gearys and get some matches going at the weekend.

Despite 4” of ice and only fishing out to 5 or 6 metres on some pegs, the majority of anglers caught fish.  F1’s, skimmers and small roach made up the bulk of catches on maggot, pinkies or small expander pellets  The aerators allowed some fishing on Molands with pegs 1- 5 clear at the weekend with the odd chub to 3lb, roach and a few F1’s caught on a long pole and maggot.

The river has been open but even on here the fishing has been tough with a few chub to 3lb being caught on ledgered bread flake.
