THE World Carp Classic 2005 will  be fished  from September 13-18 – meaning it is now bigger than ever before with a phenomenal 90 hours angling.

The popular event will once again take place on the superb Lac Amance complex in the Foret d’Orient, where almost a ton of fish was caught in a previous event. Despite an extra 24 hours fishing time, however, the entry fee remains the same as in 2004.

All the usual features that make the World Carp Classic so special will be there: the £25,000 prize table – with a £10,000 winners’ cheque; the pre-match barbeque; the competitive side competitions; and the specialist marshalling team from Sparsholt College, Hampshire.

It is still just £590 per pair entry fee - but entrants who register and pay before April 30, will receive a £50 early-bird discount. Places are limited to 115 pairs and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so get the entry form into the World Carp Classic international headquarters as soon as possible to secure a place.

In 2004, almost a dozen pairings had to sweat it out on a waiting list because they delayed sending back their entry form. So don’t delay; make sure you’re not sitting around and waiting on somebody else’s misfortune. Six pairs can make up a team to offer a greater chance of winning even more prizes. Team entry costs just £250 per team.

Tournament director Chris New explained: “We’re delighted to be able to extend the event by a further 24 hours thanks to the co-operation of the venue operators. The new format stresses the ‘enduro’ concept even more and will prove a real test for some of the best anglers around.

“We have more sponsors than ever before in 2005, which means there are also more section prizes up for grabs. It’s quite conceivable that around 50 per cent of the participants will go home with a prize of some sort.

“That’s an amazing ratio and may go some way to explaining why many of the competitors from 2004 have already booked for 2005. And we hope soon to be in a position to make a major announcement about a further exciting expansion of the event.

He added: “The competition has also become quite a social event. Anglers from different countries may get to meet each other only once a year – at the World Carp Classic.

“So the event has become a haven for renewing old friendships – particularly at the popular pre-match barbecue. And that may be another reason for the event’s esteem – in addition, of course, to the superb angling on offer.”

Now moving into its seventh year, the World Carp Classic brings together carp anglers from all across the world to compete for a £10,000 first prize. It is a unique 90-hour enduro event fished over four nights with four rods per pair.

In 2004, the competition was won by English duo Tony Kirrage and Mick Hinson.
