Globetrotting British angler Wayne Metcalfe may have a new world record on his hands after landing this massive 172lb Siamese carp from the Jurassic Mountain Fishing Resort in Thailand.

The Widnes man, who describes himself as a ‘nomadic angler’ and who travels the world fishing, played the mighty fish for nearly THREE HOURS after hooking up just before dusk.

He’d baited up with pellets in a tight area and fooled the beast on a single fishmeal pellet hook bait, playing it out on his 3lb test curve rod and Shimano 6000 Baitrunner loaded with 50lb braid.

In addition to the 172-pounder, which was quickly released after weighing, a 150lb Siamese carp was also caught from the venue at Tambon Na Yang in the same week.

The fish is much bigger than the existing accepted world Siamese carp record of 134lb 7oz, caught by Keith Williams in October 2013 at Gillham’s Fishing Resort in Krabi, Thailand (https://www.total-fishing.com/fishing-news/world-record-siamese-carp-birthday-boy-keith ).
