South Africa secured team and individual gold on home soil in the 2013 World Feeder Fishing championships fished on Bloemhof Dam.

The home nation won both days, securing five section wins, to beat Hungary into the silver medal position. England had been in second place after day one but two poor results on day two – a tenth and a 13th, saw them drop into third. Ireland were the only other home nation to compete in the event – they finished 14th of the 16 teams.

On the individual front it was also joy for the home nation as South Africa’s Casper Willemse was the only angler to secure a perfect two-point score over the two days.

Josef Konopasek of the Czech Republic took the silver medal with three points, and Matyas Sivak of Hungary the bronze.

England’s top performer was team skipper Tommy Pickering, who finished sixth overall. Steve Ringer was eighth in the overall standings, his bother Phil 10th, Mick Vials 24th and Adam Wakelin 27th. Grant Albutt did not get to fish.
