Barston Lakes is shallow and sport tends to drop off a bit after a cold spell, but it has retained its form very well up to now and that was good news for the anglers competing in the Drennan Superleague Play Off.

It was Preston Innovations Delcac who held their nerve in a precise match, scoring only nine penalty points to finish three clear of Drennan North West, with Daiwa Trentmen in third.

The team of Paul Hamlyn, Derek Gladwin, Paul Udell, Richard Taylor, Geoff Valance and Robert Taylor fed positively by balling it with a fishmeal groundbait and topping up with chopped worm, catching fish on the pole with little redworms as hook bait. On the individual front England’s Stu Conroy finishes top of the pile with a fine 47-6-0 bag of carp and skimmers, taken on pole and Method feeder. There were four more weights over 34lb.

Delcac and Drennan go through to the Superleague final which takes place at Barston June 2nd and 3rd, the first time the West Midlands venues will have hosted the prestigious event.
