When you’re done fishing, explore nearby Lampeter in the Teifi valley, an historic market town and home to a thriving university.

In addition to some of the best coarse, catfish and carp fishing holidays in the UK, Celtic Lakes Resort is currently undergoing ambitious building plans. These include converting the existing farmhouse into holiday accommodation, development of a 20-room hotel, the building of a large clubhouse with restaurant, bars and an angler’s bar and development of 16 luxury 5-star log cabins.

John Carney, owner of Celtic Lakes Resort explains: “As far as the fishing goes at Celtic Lakes, I’m trying to link with serious anglers who want serious sport with accommodation which will appeal to those who want to enjoy comfort in delightful surroundings and will feel happy to bring their wives and families or organise a holiday with friends which combines specimen hunting or pleasure angling with sophisticated accommodation and facilities.”

We look forward to welcoming you to Celtic Lakes Resort.

The Fishing
Now Celtic Lakes Resort offers superb fishing on 6 waters of varying sizes, all heavily stocked with carp to 40lb+ and catfish to 60lb+ as well as a mix of coarse fish including tench, roach, rudd, perch and bream. Night fishing is allowed and Celtic Lakes welcome touring caravans, tents and bivvies.

In December 2006, the main specimen lake was stocked with over 70 carp weighing between 15lb and 20lb and 2007 will see the arrival of specimen carp to well over 40lb in addition to 350 carp between 2lb and 10lb of which 100 weigh over 10lb.

In addition to the big carp, Celtic Lakes has also been granted a licence to stock catfish and the first of these arrived early in 2007. Weighing between 20lb and 60lb, these fish will help elevate Celtic Lakes to Wales’ premier catfish venue and one of the UK’s finest big fish waters.

Lake 6: Elysium
Over 17 acres in size, Elysium is easily the largest of the Celtic Lakes Resort waters. Developed as the venue’s specimen lake, it was originally stocked with over 350 Marc Simmonds mirror carp between 4lb and 10lb and 350 common carp between 2lb and 20lb.

The specimen lake has already produced carp to 32lb so it won’t be long before they are tipping the magic 40lb mark. Elysium also contains over 250 catfish to 60lb+ with the average size already around the 20lb to 30lb mark.

Further big fish stockings of 70 common carp between 15lb to 20lb are scheduled in addition to 40lb+ carp and 20lb to 60lb+ catfish.
The specimen lake has 40 well spaced pegs each consisting of a gravel or bark topped wooden platform, easily large enough to accommodate two rod pods. The pegs are so well spaced there is easily room to add a similar number of additional pegs in future.

In addition to the carp and catfish, Lake 6 has been heavily stocked with roach, rudd and perch to 1lb, tench and bream to 2lb, pike to 15lb and a large quantity of koi and ghost carp around the 8oz mark, all of which are packing on the weight rapidly and are already providing some exciting angling for those not interest in those monster carp and catfish.

Tree planting continues around Elysium to provide plenty of cover for anglers. The lake has two main islands planted with shrubs and plants, which slope down to an uneven bottom with a maximum depth of 16ft. The average depth is somewhere between 6 to 8ft.

Because of the uneven bottom, it is worth spending time plumbing the depth to find the holes and hollows that the carp just love. The deepest water is in the far right hand bay from the entrance as well as round the back between the left hand bank and islands.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Big fish specimen hunters who love the thrill of searching out the big carp and cats as well as more general coarse anglers who want the reliability of fishing a well stocked lake for silver fish but who also want the chance of something much, much bigger!

Lake 5: Churchill

At around six acres in size, Churchill (Lake 5) is a rectangular water with a peninsula and a small island which provide features to fish to.
This 20 peg lake has an average depth of 6ft, reaching 9ft at its deepest at the far end of the lake. In some places the banks have been cut vertically whilst in others they have slope at an angle of 45 degrees.

Stocked with about 250 Marc Simmonds mirror carp between 4lb and 10lb, Lake 5 also holds large numbers of roach, rudd, bream, tench, koi carp and perch, all similar sizes to those in Elysium. Further stocking will take place and will include a large number of golden tench, a number of crucian carp as well as a further 300 common carp. The largest of these will be in the 15lb to 20lb bracket with the majority of fish averaging around the 8lb to 10lb mark.

As with the other waters at Celtic Lakes Resort, Churchill has been designed so that every peg has a feature to fish to without anglers needing to worry about crossing other anglers’ lines. The margins have also been heavily planted with reeds and irises to provide cover during the warmer months.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Anglers who want to catch decent sized fish, but who can sometimes be intimidated by fishing large expanses of water.

Lake 4
About 2.5 acres in size but with only a dozen pegs, Lake 4 is the nearest water to the car park at Celtic Lakes Resort.
Almost triangular in shape it has been stocked with similar fish to Churchill (Lake 5) with common carp to 15lb and mirror carp ranging from 4lb to 8lb.

Although smaller than Churchill, depths still reach as much as 16ft in the far right hand corner looking at the lake from the car park, whilst most of the rest of the lake averages six feet. The banks have been cut straight down and lead to a bowl shaped bottom.

In addition to the common carp and mirror carp, Lake 4 was stocked in 2006 with koi carp, bream, tench and roach.

Lake 4 has been heavily planter with reeds, iris, ornamental grasses and bamboos around the banks as well as water lilies.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Lake 4 has been designed to appeal to more general anglers and is expected to become one of the most popular day ticket and longer stay pleasure fishing waters in Wales and the UK.

Lake 3
Lake 3 is one of group of smaller lakes at the southern end of the fishery at Celtic Lakes. It’s around 1.5 acres in size with 10 pegs with depths reaching 6ft at the deepest point. One of the banks is cut straight down while the others are cut at 45 degrees.

The banks have matured quickly since being planted with reeds and irises. Beds of lilies planted in the shallower areas provide excellent fish holding areas.

Lake 3 has been stocked with smaller carp than the larger lakes with Marc Simmonds common carp between 5lb and 8lb, common carp up to about 5lb, bream to around 2lb as well as plenty of roach, rudd, tench and koi carp.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Lake 3 will appeal to those who prefer not to fish large waters, instead preferring to fish well stocked smaller pools. It is already becoming a firm favourite with families and anglers with children.

Lake 2

The smallest lake at Celtic Lakes Resort with only… one swim! This is delightful pool for those who want to get away from it all and have a fishing venue all to themselves.

Lake two has depths to 8ft in the centre and is around a quarter of acre in size.

The Lake has been stocked with mirror carp to 8lb, bream, perch, tench, rudd and a few koi carp. Lake 2 holds no common carp.
Because of the small number of pegs, fishing on Lake 2 is on a first come first served basis.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Lake 2 will appeal to those who like their fishing in quiet, unspoiled, tranquil locations on well stocked lakes with a variety of fish.

There’s so much variety at this truly outstanding venue.

Lake 1
One of the smallest lakes at Celtic Lakes Resort with only… two swims! This is delightful pool for those who want to get away from it all and have a fishing venue all to themselves. Lake Two has depths to 6ft in the centre and is around an acre in size.

The Lake has been stocked almost exclusively with koi carp and rudd although it is expected that this will change over the years as fry of other species find their way into the pool from the overflow from the other lakes.

Because of the small number of pegs, fishing on Lake 2 is on a first come first served basis.

Who will this lake appeal to?
Lake 1 will appeal to those who like their fishing in unspoiled, tranquil locations on well stocked lakes.
