The Dynamite Baits backed AT/CRT Canal Pairs latest match saw 26 hopefuls take on the Grand Union canal at Foxton. In the lead up to the match there had been an awful lot of small silvers showing and so this proved on the qualifier as well.

Preston Innovations Black Horse pairing of Alan Donnely and Andy Curless showed their speed fishing prowess with a near perfect score of 99 points. Andy drew end peg 1 on the Piggeries section and went about sending the small roach into a feeding frenzy with Squat. 270 fish later the scales showed 7lb 15oz, 2lb clear of anyone else and a big fifty points. Andy was backed up expertly by his partner Alan, who had drawn B10 on the stables section. Alan also fished squat across the canal to far bank bush and took around 260 slightly smaller fish for 5lb 11oz and 49 points.

Competition for second place was fierce with the second pairing going through by just seven ounces on weight countback! Browning Northants paring of Gary Young and Matthew Collerson were the pair in question. Gary drew an unfavored area of the Stables section B2, having started his match short, he followed the small roach across, which in turn drew in some bonus perch and few better stamp roach for his 5lb 0oz 8drms and third in section. Matt backed Gary up nicely from the poorer side of the bridge at piggeries. Fishing a mega busy match Matt caught 200 small roach for 4lb 5oz and fourth in section.

The Angling Trust would like to thank Ivor Stokes and Peter Laughton from Wellingborough and District Nene Angling Club for a very well-run qualifier.
