MATCH fishing ace Dave Harrell is joining the Midland Angler team with his look at the region’s match and pleasure fishing scene.
Dave, who lives a stone’s throw from the mighty River Severn at Bewdley, will be replacing Jan Porter from the April issue (out March 12th) and intends to bring his own slant to his monthly column.
“I was delighted when I heard that Midland Angler was being launched in late 2001. I’m even more delighted to be asked to write a monthly column in a magazine I regard as a really great read,” said Dave.
“The editor has asked me to keep anglers in the Midlands on top of what’s going on with regards to the club, open and pleasure fishing scene.
“I have plenty of ideas and certainly have a few stories to tell. With luck I can make the readers of Midland Angler laugh, while at the same time passing on tips and information which will put more fish in their nets, whether they fish rivers, canals or stillwaters.
“I intend to be topical and where necessary controversial,” he added.
Dave (44), is one of the best-respected match anglers in the whole Midlands region.
He was in the England set up between 1987 and 1998, winning a gold medal in the European Championships in Portugal.
Dave helped found the Midland Angling Products brand and still works for tackle firm Leeda as consultant for the MAP brand.
In his first column Dave gives his reasons why he thinks it’s time to abolish the close season on rivers. The same issue will include views on the issue from 12 clubs around the Midlands region.
