THE Birmingham-Stratford Canal once again hosts a big charity match to raise money for the St Mary’s Hospice appeal.
The event, which raised over £500 last year, takes place on Saturday April 9th and away from the fishing, a main feature is a big post-match raffle with bundles of tackle prizes given away. It’s a good cause – St Mary’s Hospice at Selly Park looks after terminally-ill patients in the Birmingham area and has cared for around a thousand local people in the last 12 months alone.

Organiser John Davis is still looking for tackle to boost the raffle, and if you have anything you’d like to donate or want to fish, give him a call on 077199 22288 or 0121 608 2547. It’s £12.50 all in, which must be paid in advance, and the draw is at the Drawbridge Pub at 8.30am. The canal fished well at this time last year and I’d expect double figures to be required to win.
