To coincide with the start of the new river season, Coarse & Match Fishing is broadcasting a memorable episode of its popular Session series on the Warwickshire Avon, featuring a 13lb barbel caught for the cameras.

Steve Collett joins Shakespeare’s Jamie Robbins on a beautiful, crystal-clear stretch of the upper Avon with barbel and chub in mind.
The pair discuss how to build up a peg gradually to bring the big fish in and pass on some advice on swim selection.

But there’s no waiting around for big fish with Steve. He’s feeder fishing with pellets and a centrepin reel, and has a monster barbel going 13lb 2oz on his very first cast!
Jamie’s approaching his peg on the float and maggot, and passes on some great advice on how to fish stick float and waggler in swiftly-flowing water, as he puts together and impressive bag of silver fish, including some thumping chub.
Steve switches to roving tactics now and is also bagging quality chub on pellet, but using an innovative and fish-friendly rig with a very long tail, he rounds things off in style with another huge Warks Avon barbel.
This is what you might call it a VERY successful Session.
The programme is free to view, split into three parts, in the June/July issue of Coarse & Match Fishing online, on ipads and iphones and soon on Samsung Smart TVs.
